Clenching and grinding is caused by excessively actively jaw muscles, which pass on this pressure to the teeth.

 

This often results in short, worn, flat teeth, reduces the lifespan of fillings, and can often cause sensitivity as the enamel of the tooth is worn away and the underlying softer layers are exposed.
